FAQs

Whether you're new to hiring a dog walker or simply curious to learn more about my services, here you'll find useful information about The Lune Wolf. From weather scenarios to bookings, this page should help you navigate some of the most frequently asked questions my customers have.

How many dogs do you walk at once?

It really depends on the day and group of dogs. Most days I'll walk up to 6 dogs together, but I ensure all the dogs in a group are comfortable with one another first. This means I might introduce a new member of the pack gradually through smaller group sessions before progressing to larger groups.

What are your rates?

I offer competitive rates for customers, especially those who subscribe to one of the monthly membership plans. The Premium Pooch Plan offers up to 23 walks in a month and works out at £8.70 per walk. The Workin' Dog Parent Plan offers up to 10 walks in a month totalling £12.50 per walk.

Customers are also welcome to book walks on an ad-hoc basis for £15 or £22 for two dogs.

Do you walk dogs in bad weather?

Absolutely! Rain or shine - it's all part of the job! Fortunately, I love the outdoors and am hardened to pretty much every weather condition, so if the dogs are happy enough to run and play about in the wind, rain, and snow, you can bet I'll be as well.

Now of course there will be exceptions in extreme situations. I would never put a dog in harm's way, so in instances of severe cold or hot weather I will use my personal judgement and contact you if walks are cancelled.

Do you offer dog training?

I am not a licensed dog trainer and don't claim to be. When it comes to dog training, I come from the school of experience, which is pretty straightforward: reward dogs for good behaviour to encourage more of it (this is where those high-quality treats come in!); for dogs who exhibit nervous or anxious behaviour, I use patience and my best judgement to instil trust and confidence.

How do you transport the dogs?

I have a fully custom, purpose-built van with ventilation fitted to ensure your dog's comfort during pick up and drop off. Each cage is padded with made-to-measure waterproof beds for a more relaxed journey. I also carry a dog first aid kit, water for drinking, and most importantly - PLENTY of spare towels!

Do you let the dogs off the leash?

What makes my walks unique is that I do offer fully off-leash walking, but only if you and I feel 100% confident in allowing your dog off the leash. Off-leash walks are only possible after I've made an assessment to understand your dog's walking habits. During the booking process you'll also be asked a series of questions about your dog, including those to establish whether you're comfortable to allow your dog off-leash. You have the option to decline, allow, or allow only based on my personal discretion after the assessment.

Regardless of whether your dog is used to walking off-leash, what's most important is the two-way trust that must be established between your dog and me before making this decision.

What areas do you cover?

My current catchment area is approximately a 5-mile radius of Lancaster city centre. This includes Morecambe, Hest Bank, Heysham, Halton, Caton, and Lancaster.

Do you work weekends?

Part of the reason I decided to become a dog walker was to increase time with my family. After working over a decade in sales roles which required me to be away from my family at the weekend, I learned that life is just too short! So unfortunately, I don't offer any weekend walks but am happy to take calls from new and prospective customers as well as arrange diaries with customers on WhatsApp at the weekend.

Can I choose what time you walk my dog?

Due to logistics, I am only able to guarantee that your dog will be walked during the working day. This means I am unable to accommodate specific time requests. Walks are usually between the hours of 9am and 3pm with the last group returning no later than 5pm.

Can I cancel my subscription?

Of course. I understand that things change and sometimes you may need to cancel your dog walking subscription with me. This can easily be done through your VIP members' area login on the website. Simply login and from here you should be able to cancel or amend your subscription.

Where do you walk the dogs?

This varies depending on the group, area of pickup and day. I try to switch up the walks each week, but my main priority is that the dogs get a proper 'adventure' no matter where they go. I have my set areas around Morecambe, Heysham, Halton, and Lancaster - these include different types of terrains through forests, hills, beaches, canals, and fields.
